When is the best time to visit Crete?
There is no single best month for everyone. Beach lovers, hikers and travellers who dislike crowds often prefer different parts of the year.
April
April is better suited to sightseeing, countryside drives and spring landscapes than a guaranteed beach holiday.
May
May is attractive for warm days, greenery and comfortable sightseeing conditions. Sea temperatures may feel cool to some visitors early in the month.
June
June is a strong all-round choice. Days are long, beach weather is established and the busiest summer period has not yet fully arrived.
July and August
These are peak summer months. Expect hot weather and more visitors at famous beaches. Start major excursions early.
September
September is excellent for travellers who want warm sea conditions and summer atmosphere with the peak August rush beginning to ease.
October
October can still offer enjoyable beach and sightseeing days, but conditions become more variable as autumn progresses.
November to March
Winter Crete is better suited to cities, food, local life, museums and landscapes than a conventional beach holiday.
