Can you visit Crete without a car?
Yes. A car gives you more flexibility, but you can still have an excellent holiday without one. The key is to plan around transport rather than copying an itinerary designed for drivers.

Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos are much easier bases for a car-free trip than remote accommodation.

The most common car-free planning mistake is trying to cover the whole island. If you are based in Chania, focus mainly on western Crete. If you are in Heraklion, build the trip around central Crete and nearby destinations.
